Northwest Obedience Club, an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization*, has helped individuals to train their dogs to become better household companions for over 50 years.
NOCI was founded in 1953 by a group of individuals that trained in the backyard of Dr. and Mrs. Justin Fleischmann. Dave Terrill, another member of this group, helped locate their first “training hall” located at the Palatine Fire Station.
Mr. Terrill, also an AKC judge, was very active and influential in building NOCI and remained on the Board of Directors as a Director at Large for many years, until his death.
NOCI remained in Palatine but in 1955 moved to the basement of a building on Brockway. In April 1956 we hosted our first AKC sanctioned match. In August 1958 we held our first AKC licensed obedience trial and tracking test.
When NOCI first began they had one night of training, holding classes from beginning level obedience to Utility, and then increased to two nights in the Palatine basement.
NOCI’s rich history has evolved extensively over the past 50 years, and we now provide a full menu of classes Monday– Friday in our current location. We have grown into a large, well-equipped dog training club, serving the northern Illinois area with quality, affordable classes for training your dog.
Our club consists of a diversified group of pet dog owners, competitive dog owners, and professional trainers. The dedication and excellence of our NOCI membership can be rare to find. Our instructors bring their love of dogs and willingness to help people and their canine companions, by giving of their time and knowledge freely. Many are currently exhibiting their own dogs in a multitude of venues and dog sports.
